
The Department for Education (DfE) in England launched a review of the curriculum, which provided an opportunity for researchers in the field to share evidence about what is working and what is needed in relation to Citizenship. One outcome of the review was to recommend Citizenship is introduced in primary schools for the first time, as well as refreshing the curriculum for secondary schools.
BERA provided funding for Lee Jerome and Faiza Hyder, at Middlesex University, to facilitate a student voice consultation in the build up the curriculum review. The Agenda for Citizenship Education project involved secondary school students as peer researchers, running focus groups to consult other students about what they wanted from the new curriculum.
