Education for Democracy (EFD)

Education for Democracy (EFD) is a network of researchers, teachers and other educationalists. The network is committed to exploring how education can best make a contribution to sustaining and strengthening democracy.

Evidence focused

EFD will explore the evidence base to build a better understanding about the impact of various educational initiatives. We will disseminate this to early years practitioners, teachers, senior leaders, and university staff. But, we’re not just looking for ‘what works’ we’re looking for how different practices work differently for different groups in different contexts and how they contribute to diverse outcomes that could strengthen democracy. Check out our projects page for more information.

Practical

EFD will focus on practical educational initiatives and activities. We will provide resources that can be used in training workshops and in classrooms to put principles into practice. Part of our work is focusing on the curriculum, but we also embrace cross-curricular learning, whole school culture and policy, community relations and the centrality of relationships. Check out the projects page and the events page.

Collaborative

EFD is committed to fostering conversations and collaborations between various groups of practitioners. We embrace the principle that deliberation will provide a productive and powerful means to bind us together and help us explore these important issues. Check out the events page and the partners page to sign up.
