Education for Democracy will feature a range of practical and research projects from network members.

Project -1

This collaborative research project brought together teachers, educationalists, and researchers to examine the kinds of knowledge shaping classroom practice. By analysing detailed case studies, the project team identified five distinct forms of professional knowledge that together form a shared professional knowledge base for citizenship education.

Project -2

Teaching contemporary and controversial issues is becoming harder as political discourse grows polarised and online spaces intensify disinformation and conspiracy thinking. This project investigates how students can act as collaborative partners, working with teachers to co plan meaningful and relevant classroom responses to divisive issues.

Project -3

The Department for Education in England launched a national curriculum review that created opportunities for researchers to contribute evidence about effective practice, existing challenges, and future needs, particularly in relation to citizenship education provision across the system.

Project -4

This project developed classroom resources designed to support deliberative discussion related to fundamental British values. Researchers recorded classroom conversations to analyse how such talk unfolds in practice and to generate practical guidance and advice for teachers working in diverse classroom contexts.
