In this project we ran a series of ‘masterclasses’ for PGCE Citizenship student teachers. Each session included teachers, NGO educators, and researchers providing input on key topics, such as anti-racism, sustainable citizenship, human rights, peace and conflict, and achieving change.
Using Shulman’s work as a starting point, we analysed the forms of knowledge that underpinned the planning, production of resources and teaching activities in the masterclasses. This process identified five elements of Citizenship teachers’ professional knowledge base.

This work is being published online by UCL Press, but in the meantime you can read about this model and a sample chapter.
